4. How did the Industrial Revolution transform British Society?
The Industrial Revolution transformed the British Society by tons of things. During that time there was a rapid growth population in Europe which made it hard for families to get jobs to provide for their loved ones but due to the Industrial Revolution people were able to provide for their families. Not only was it beneficial for families it was also helpful for businessmen, manufacturers, and bankers. "As urban wealth became more important, landed aristocrats had to make way for the up-and-coming businessmen, manufacturers, and bankers, newly enriched by the Industrial Revolution"(813). However, the Industrial Revolution was not beneficial for the Aristocracy. " By the end of the century, land ownership had largely ceased to be the basis of great wealth, and businessman, rather than aristocrats" (813).
5. How did Britain's middle classes change during the nineteenth century?
There were tons of changes in the Middle class during the nineteenth century. The middle-class were the ones who benefited the most during the Industrial Revolution. " Those who benefited most conspicuously from Industrialization were members of that amorphous group known as the middle class" (813). The middle class in the 21st century is not the same as the Middle class of the nineteenth century. In the 21st century, women now have the right to vote but during the nineteenth century, they were not allowed to vote. Their agitation resulted in the Reform Bill of 1832, which broadened the right to vote to many men of the middle class, but not to middle-class women" (813).
Women during the nineteenth century were labeled as "homemakers, wives, and mothers" (814). However, due to the Industrial Revolution, it allowed women to work, making profit to provide for themselves and their families due to the growth of the overall population. "By the late nineteenth century, some middle- class women began to enter the teaching, clerical, and nursing professions" (814). "From 1881-1901 the number of female secretaries in Britain rose from "7,000 to 90,000" due to employment opportunities rising for women.
7. What were the differences between industrialization in the United States and that in Russia?
The major difference between industrialization in the United States and that in Russia is that in Russia they used Socialism with Industrialization while the United States did not use Socialism with Industrialization. " Tax breaks, huge grants of public land to the railroad companies, laws enabling the easy formation of corporations, and the absence of much overt regulation of industry all fostered the rise of very large business" (826). "The United States also created techniques of mass production, using interchangeable parts, the assembly line, and the scientific management to produce a mass-market" (826)
